Day 5: Dead to sin and alive in Christ

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Romans 6:8-11
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Reflection:
Through Jesus we are dead to sin, yet we have so much trouble believing that. This is especially true when we see old habits or things from our past come back and we just don’t seem to change. However, Paul wanted the Corinthians to know that they are changed, and they are different because of what Christ has done. In the same way we are to see ourselves, and our brothers and sisters in the Lord, no longer as people consumed by sin, but as those who have been set free by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. And in this, we have truly been set free, because we have a new life in God.

Response:
Let’s pray that we would be a people who would be willing to believe and encourage others with God’s truth, that in Christ we are no longer stuck in old sinful ways but we have been made alive in Christ.  Let’s ask that God will transform our communities so that we can live in this reality in Christ.
