Day 5: Caring Together

Friday, May 15th, 2009

1 Peter 5:7-9 (NLT) – “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.”

One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. One annoying headache brings misery to the entire body. One wrong turn can ruin the full itinerary of a trip. Whether we see it or not, when one of us worries, we all worry together and together we experience the fears. However, our worries and fears are not the only things that we share. No, just as a harbinger brings good news to a town, a single proclamation of the gospel can bring revival to an entire community. A single prayer can bring healing for many. A single confession covers over a multitude of sins. And a single sacrifice of Jesus Christ brought salvation to the world. It is this sharing of God’s great care that helps us to stay alert and watchful in times of trial and suffering.

Responding to the Transmitted Message: Let’s not pray only about our own worries and fears, but let’s pray for our brothers and sisters in all of the churches, the campuses and missional groups.  Because God cares for all of us, let’s pray that we will stand together, encouraging and helping, being strong and firm in our faith.
