Psalm 139:17-18, 23-24 (NIV)

How precious to me are your thoughts, God!

How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,

they would outnumber the grains of sand-

when I awake, I am still with you.

Search me, God, and know my heart;

test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting.

King David was well acquainted with God’s ways and throughout the psalms, he mediates on the character of God, His wisdom, His omniscience, His absolute greatness.  This psalm is a prayer of who one who knows God and is known by God and who calls on Him.  In verse 17, we see that the incomprehensible greatness of God’s knowledge overwhelms King David  - to know the One who is so great knows him so intimately is a source of great comfort.  David’s life is completely laid bare, transparent and open before God.  He trusts God and in verses 23-24 we see this trust in his invitation to God to search his innermost thoughts and feelings.  David fully submits himself to God’s correction, direction and leading.

Just like King David in Psalm 139, we are intimately known by the Lord, and we, too, are to be completely laid bare, transparent and open before God.  In our seeking to know God and His ways, we can approach God in openness.  Only God knows what’s in our hearts, and we can fully trust Him.

Responding to the Transmission

Today let’s be led by God in the way we ought to go.  Let’s approach God in openness asking Him to search our hearts, praying over verses 23-24.  As the Spirit leads and speaks to us, let’s respond by fully submitting to His correction, direction and leading.
