Day 5: No Worries

Friday, October 16th, 2009

1 John 5:1-5 (NLT)

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. 2 We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. 3 Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. 5 And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

Reflection:

In our lives, we are sometimes overwhelmed at the challenge of resisting the temptations of the world and the challenge of keeping our hearts focused on God. But here, John exhorts us to not lose heart and to remember that this calling is not meant to be burdensome or be an unrealistic challenge. As Jesus says that his yoke is easy and his burden is light, He has already overcome the world through His death and resurrection. Therefore as the children of an almighty Father, we can take part in His victory through this solid faith in Him. He is the one we place our hopes in, and He restores our confidence when we grow weary or discouraged.

Responding to the Transmission:

As God’s children, let’s pray today thanking God that in Christ, we defeat the evil world. Ask the Lord to fill us with love for God and love for His children.  Also pray that we would be full of belief in our Father by obeying Him, and as the Word declares - that we would be able to live as His children full of joy and gladness because He has given us this victory through the cross of Jesus Christ.
