Day Five: The Year of Jubilee

Friday, January 8th, 2016

Leviticus 25:8-10 - “Count off seven sabbath years-seven times seven years-so that the seven sabbath years amount to a period of forty-nine years. Then have the trumpet sounded everywhere on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement sound the trumpet throughout your land. Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you…”

“‘Follow my decrees and be careful to obey my laws, and you will live safely in the land. Then the land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill and live there in safety. You may ask, “What will we eat in the seventh year if we do not plant or harvest our crops?” I will send you such a blessing in the sixth year that the land will yield enough for three years. While you plant during the eighth year, you will eat from the old crop and will continue to eat from it until the harvest of the ninth year comes in.”

As we declared together during the Agapé conference, the year 2016 is a year of Jubilee for all of our churches. Jubilee is a time when things that need to be nullified will be nullified and the abundant blessing of God like never before comes in our lives and in our churches. Today, what are the things that need to come to an end in your own life or in the lives of those you are ministering to (hindrances, obstacles, a desert season in your life, a period of spiritual famine, life circumstances that need to change, old habits and thought patterns, a pattern of sinful response, etc.). Declare and believe today that this is the year of change and freedom.

Today, what are the areas where the fullness of God’s blessing needs to come either in your own life or in the lives of those you are ministering to. Whether it be greater joy, a sense of God’s peace, healing (emotional, spiritual, or physical), the need for a job, fruitfulness in ministry, salvation for those we are reaching out to, leaders being raised up, etc. Again, let’s declare and believe today that this is the year of change, blessing, and fruitfulness like never before.

Just as an encouragement. We may be tempted to think and react to life circumstances as if this is a year just like any other year. The thought “nothing has changed” may come. This could be in our personal lives or in our ministry. This year, let us actively throw off even the slightest hint of doubt. No, this is not a year like any other year! It is the year of Jubilee! This changes everything, just like it did in those times.

Since Jubilee in the Old Testament came once every 50 years, a person probably only experienced it once in their lifetime, if that. It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Good News for us is that Christ himself is our Jubilee who sets us free and abundantly blesses us through the Spirit. For us who live in the age of the Spirit, if we really catch this truth it won’t just be a year long experience, but a lifelong one that takes us into the eternity of joy, freedom, and abundant blessings with Christ. Sound the trumpet! Let’s proclaim liberty throughout our cities and campuses. This is the year of Jubilee!
