Day Five: Songs to the Servant

Friday, April 1st, 2016

Did you know that three of the four Servant Songs are followed immediately by songs sung by the people? Our response to the Servant Songs – to the Servant proclaimed in the songs – is to sing to the Servant.

Isaiah 42:10 – “Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who live in them….”

Isaiah 49:13 – Shout for joy, you heavens; rejoice, you earth; burst into song, you mountains! For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.”

Isaiah 54:1-3 – ’Sing, barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband,’ says the Lord….”

The Servant has come!  God has worked salvation for His people!  He suffered, He died, He rose again.  He has seen the fruit of His suffering and it will all come in full when He returns.

As we finish this Servant Song series, let’s take a song and make it ours to sing to the Lord.  Maybe it will be one of the 3 song responses above.  Maybe it will be one of the songs we sang together on Easter Sunday.  Maybe it will be a new song that the Lord gives to you.  Whatever it may be, let us sing to the Servant.  May His praise rise up from His people!
