Day Five: Clean Conscience

Friday, May 26th, 2017

Hebrews 10:22-23 - “…let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”

The author of Hebrew’s take on baptism is given in this passage. The heart is cleansed from a guilty conscience. When we talk about conscience we are talking about deep things that embed our minds. It is hard to locate where the conscience lies physically in your brain, but when speaking of our mindset and thought-like conscience, it is something that is deep. It is something that makes the foundation and basis for all other thoughts, decisions and actions. The guilty conscience affects how you think and act around others permeating through everything in life, and it’s not a good way to live!

This is an amazing reality that the gospel changes everything in the life of the believer; no longer slaves to a guilty conscience but now cleansed through our baptism and union with Christ. This is part of the new life in Christ!

Response: If you see yourself struggling with a guilty conscience, affecting parts of your life, let us be renewed today. Let’s ask God for the cleansing of our hearts.
