Day Five: Work of Harvesting

Friday, June 30th, 2017

Luke 10:2 (NIV) - These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”

Hebrews 12:2 (NLT) - “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

When our churches come together for the baptism and membership service, it’s truly a joy filled time we share in God’s presence. The testimonies of our brothers and sisters whose lives have been touched, transformed by the gospel bring our hearts to praise and worship God! It never gets old to hear about God’s work of salvation in someone’s life because we know that each salvation story is a miracle.

As disciples of Christ, God calls us to participate in this work of bringing the good news of God’s salvation to this world. Many of the testimonies often include faithful witness, service and prayers of someone who loved and cared for them.

Jesus says harvest is great. There is so much to do, but few are willing to work the fields day in and day out. P. Jason often shares about his time spent at P. Tim’s parents’ farm and how they had to get up super early each day to work, feed the animals, milk the cows, clean, etc. He experienced firsthand that farming is hard work and there is no skipping a day. The cows need to be milked - moo!

Spiritual farming takes sacrifice and consistency. It takes persistence. The reason why Jesus says the workers are few is because this work is hard work. Few are willing to work the fields. Can we be willing to work the harvest field? This work has ETERNAL value! Yes, there will be sacrifice and hard work but there will also be great joy!
