Day Four: Framework – The ways of the Lord

Psalm 119

33 Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees,
that I may follow it to the end.
34 Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law
and obey it with all my heart.
35 Direct me in the path of your commands,
for there I find delight.
36 Turn my heart toward your statutes
and not toward selfish gain.
37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
preserve my life according to your word.
38 Fulfill your promise to your servant,
so that you may be feared.
39 Take away the disgrace I dread,
for your laws are good.
40 How I long for your precepts!
In your righteousness preserve my life.

Today as you read the passage above, list all the words of ‘request’ by the Psalmist. For example, v.33: Teach me, v.34: Give me understanding, etc.

The Psalm above uses the following words: decrees, law, commands, statutes and precepts. What do you think the Psalmist is ultimately after by using these words?  What is the heart behind his request? (hint: to know the ways of the Lord)

Now go through each of the verses and list the reasoning/purpose for the Psalmist’s desire to know the ways of the Lord.  For example: v.33: That I may follow it to the end, v.34: Obey with all my heart, etc.

How has studying today’s Psalm give you a renewed framework of the ways of the Lord to follow?

Today pray asking that you would delight and know the ways of the Lord, which preserves our lives!
