Day 4: Suspicious Characters

Proverbs 3:5-6 (MSG) – Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.  Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.

One dark night, a young little boy was lost out in the deep woods.  As he wandered here and there trying to find his way, he came upon some suspicious-looking characters, Worry Wort and Fraidy Cat.

“Hey little boy, what are you all by yourself?  Aren’t you worried that you’ll never find your way?” asked Worry Wort. “You look scared, kid.  Aren’t you afraid that some thing bad will happen to you?” asked Fraidy Cat.  Looking around and seeing no end to the dark woods, the young little boy suddenly became gripped with fear.

“What do I do, Worry Wort?  Tell me, Fraidy Cat, how to get out of these woods?” desperately asked the frightened boy.  But, before Worry Wort and Fraidy Cat were able give an answer, a loud voice called out.  “My child, my child, listen for my voice.  Hear me call out your name.  I will guide you through.” He immediately knew that it was his Father.  Without a moment more, the boy started out in the direction of his Father’s voice and, without looking back, left behind Worry Wort and Fraidy Cat.

Responding to the Transmitted Message: Whenever we are lost or uncertain, we are no different than a lost child.  We also turn to worry and fear for answers and help.  But trusting God means listening for God’s voice and not listening to the worry or fear.  Let us meditate on God’s Word.  Allow God’s Word to keep you on tract and return to it again and again.
