Day Five - “Raise the Roof!”

Mark 2:1-5 (NIV)

1 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2 They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. 4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Reflection:

How easily it could have been for the four friends to turn away and give up because of the large crowds. Imagine the surprise of the paralyzed man when he first heard of the idea of being lowered down from the roof into a standing room only home. The need of the paralyzed man moved his friends (filled with faith) to action, and that resulted in some extraordinary measures to do whatever it took to bring him to Jesus.

What do we do when we see the needs of our friends? There is so much need around us (physical and spiritual). May we be filled with faith, being moved to compassionate action and bringing others to Jesus.

Responding to the Transmission:

What an adventure we are being invited into as a people of God, His church - to live a life of faith that is empowered to exhort to extraordinary measures - for ourselves, our friends, our families, our co-workers. Let’s take risks and be persistant (not giving up in the face of obstacles) to bring those that need a touch from our Lord to Him. And remember that the Lord is able to bring healing and salvation to the ones that come to Him. Let us pray for them.
