1 Timothy 6:11-16 (TNIV)
11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14 to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,15 which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.
Many have described Paul to be the spiritual father of Timothy and the passage above is Paul’s final exhortation to Timothy. It’s a no less than a charge to Timothy to fight the good fight of faith; to take hold of the eternal life to which he was called. It’s the same life that Paul was called to – the life of testifying about the Lord Jesus Christ through whatever circumstances he went through. It is because the Lord Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, gave his life for us and will come again in glory. This is the same life that God graciously gives to us, even in the midst of what may be storms in our lives.
Responding to the Transmission:
Let’s spend some time reading through this passage several times. As we read, let’s proclaim these words over our lives and the lives of our brothers and sisters in our churches. Let’s pray that as we take greater hold of this life together, testifying about our Lord Jesus Christ, that more would be added to our campuses, missional groups and churches and also receive and proclaim this Truth over their lives.
