2 Timothy 1:6-7, 13-14 NRSVUE
6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

13 What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

Here, Paul is reminding Timothy to “fan into flame the gift of God” that he received to equip him for the work to which he had been called. He urges him to retain and guard the truth content of the Gospel message, “with faith and love in Christ Jesus,” enabled by Spirit. In 2026, in the city that we are in, it is the same Gospel message that we have received. How wonderful it is that this is the same Gospel message we have been entrusted with. His love has changed our lives. May the Holy Spirit continue to reveal and show us Jesus’ heart and love for us and for others.

Prayer: Lord, we praise you for rescuing us and changing our lives. As we continue to experience your heart and love for us, may we overflow in sharing your love with others. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Matthew 28:18-20 NLT
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

“The Jesus of Matthew is omnipresent with his people and in every way at work in our lives…It is this authority and presence, this ‘power’ at work in us, that makes it possible for us to overcome (even rejoice in) our weaknesses and accomplish great things for the kingdom.” (Osborne, Grant R., Matthew, Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on The New Testament, 1570)

As those who have received the riches of God’s love, grace, and forgiveness, he has commissioned us to “go and make disciples” and to “teach these new disciples to obey”. Jesus assures us of his presence with us. His power is at work in us. He is praying for us. May this bring encouragement today, that we can go, that we can teach these new disciples what it means to be a follower of Christ, all for his glory.

Prayer: Thank you for the Holy Spirit living in us. We confess how much we need your empowering daily. In all that we do, would you help us to depend on you.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

Deuteronomy 1:8 NRSVUE
8 See, I have set the land before you; go in and take possession of the land that the LORD swore to your ancestors, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their descendants after them.

“In the ultimate purpose of God, therefore, a lot more was at stake in Israel’s crossing the Jordan into the promised land than merely getting them out of the wilderness. Their next step of obedience was also the next step in the redemption of the world. They needed to be motivated to take that step not just for their own sake, but to move forward in God’s historical strategy for bringing blessing to the nations. There was a missionary dimension to Deuteronomy’s call for committed obedience. There always is. The church as a whole and individual Christians need to see every step of obedience that is called for in response to God’s grace as being invested with the significance of being woven into God’s great plan of blessing the nations.” (Wright, Christopher J. Prayer: Lord, thank you that I am woven into your great plan to bless the nations. Individually, and as churches, would you help us take the next step in obedience and may the blessing flow into those around us.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

Deuteronomy 1:6-7 NRSVUE
6 “The LORD our God spoke to us at Horeb, saying, ‘You have stayed long enough at this mountain. 7 Resume your journey, and go into the hill country of the Amorites as well as into the neighboring regions—the Arabah, the hill country, the Shephelah, the Negeb, and the seacoast—the land of the Canaanites and the Lebanon, as far as the great river, the River Euphrates.

“It’s time to move… Now they must go and possess the land to make it a reality. The dimensions of this land, described in verse 7, are enormous. All of Palestine and Syria are included in this geographical description. This is a larger area than Israel ever possessed, even during the reigns of David and Solomon. God did not want His people to sit and become satisfied. Their task was to continue moving until they saw and possessed the land…He is telling them not to get comfortable.

God wants the people to see more than geographical boundaries. He wants them to see His commitment to Abraham and his descendants. The Israelites’ ability to see the Promisor will determine their ability to possess the Promised Land.” (Maxwell, John C., Deuteronomy, The Preacher’s Commentary, 30-31)

Prayer: Our loving God, we say, “Yes” to moving forward and taking hold of the victory we have in you. We will keep our eyes fixed on you, for you are faithful. In Jesus’ name, amen.

We love the living God
Our God whom we love reveals himself in the Bible as the one, eternal, living God who governs all things according to his sovereign will and for his saving purpose. In the unity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, God alone is the Creator, Ruler, Judge and Saviour of the world. So we love God – thanking him for our place in creation, submitting to his sovereign providence, trusting in his justice, and praising him for the salvation he has accomplished for us (Lausanne Movement, “The Cape Town Commitment,” Part I, sec. 2).

Prayer: You are the God we love. You are holy. You are worthy. We confess that we are the work of your hand. Thank you for the salvation you accomplished for us. I confess that the harvest is plentiful. I surrender today to your molding and shaping, that I may be sent out as a worker into your harvest field. In Jesus’ name, amen.
