Day 3: You are close beside me

Psalm 23 (NLT)

The LORD is my shepherd;
I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
Even when I walk
through the dark valley of death,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You welcome me as a guest,
anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the LORD

This is grace: we are deserving of God’s presence because Jesus has already done the deserving for us. Now, it doesn’t matter what we may face in life. We have the Good Shepherd who is with us leading us through. We are not alone… God is with us. Because of this reality, we lack nothing but have everything in Christ… green pastures, peaceful streams, comfort, protection, anointing, victory, blessing, love, and a place in God’s house. Spend some time praying the words of this psalm over your life and then pray it over someone who the Lord has put on your heart. As you do, hear the voice of your shepherd who is right there with you.

Lord, change our thoughts and emotions to be aligned with the truth that we are deserving because Jesus has already done the deserving on our behalf. In the midst of difficulties may we experience that you are by our side restoring, leading, comforting, and protecting us. May those that we pray for experience the same grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
