Day Two: Supernatural faith to receive and believe in Jesus

John 1:9-13 NIV9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

“The right (or power) to become children of God must be given by God. The images of verse 13 rule out any role for human power or authority in the process of becoming a child of God. Those who are receptive to the Son are offered the gift of becoming children of God themselves.” [Rodney A. Whitacre, IVP Commentary on John]

All saving faith is supernatural! The faith that we have in God’s salvation has been supernaturally given to us. This is regardless if you came to faith later in life, or if you have grown up in the church, all saving faith is supernatural. For the basis of our salvation is through the divine and supernatural work and presence of God. Where the Lord comes to the very dungeons and broken areas of our lives, to bring his foundation shaking gospel tearing down the prisons and the chain that once held us captive. Now in that place he gives us his resurrection life.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we thank you for the supernatural faith to receive you and believe in your name, and to become the children of God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Let’s worship with the song “Jesus only Jesus” by Matt Redman (Click here).
