Day Three: Change the atmosphere!

Acts 16:25 NIVAbout midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.

In the depths of the dungeon in Philippi, we find Paul and Silas beaten and bloodied, with their feet shackled to the stocks. In many ways this dungeon represents the whole city of Philippi—a place that was captive to sin and death, where everyone lived in darkness as in a dungeon.

It was in this place that Paul and Silas begin to worship and pray. As they usher in the presence of the Lord, it changes the very atmosphere of that place. So much so that even the other prisoners were listening as they experience the presence of God coming and invading and changing the atmosphere of the dungeon.

There is something incredible that occurs when God’s people worship and declare God’s salvation in places of darkness and oppression. May we in times of difficulty, confusion, and discouragement, like Paul and Silas (though bloody and beaten), experience the Lord changing the very atmosphere as we begin to pray and worship.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we worship you and invite your presence today in places of our struggles. May your presence change the atmosphere in our homes, workplaces, school, and in our alone times. We ask that your light will shine in the places of darkness. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Let’s worship with the song “Holy Spirit you are welcome here” by Jesus Culture (Click here).
