Joshua 10:12b-14 NIV
12 … Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:
“Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on its enemies…
The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!
Joshua had the audacious faith to command the sun and moon to stand still so that Israel could finish fighting the battle. We are not given an abundance of details on the how or why of Joshua’s actions. No matter the reason, the Lord had told Joshua that he had given the enemies into their hands, and Joshua was ready to persist until the job was done – to the point of commanding the sun and moon to stand still so they could defeat the enemy. And the Lord listened!
Audacious faith is faith that the Lord listens to – on behalf of our own lives, our families, our communities, our ministries, and our churches. Where is the battle waging, that is yet to be won in the victory promised you by the Lord?
Prayer: “Lord, awaken my heart and mind to the victory you have promised your church through Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
