Day 5 – Everything

Hebrews 4:11-13 (NIV)
11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

“‘The apostles had to teach people to obey all that Jesus commanded them during His ministry on earth. Their listeners had to be brought under His commandments so that they could show by their lives that they really belong to Him. That is the final purpose of the preaching of the gospel.’ What Jesus did in making disciples of his first followers, succeeding generations of the church will do in the making of new disciples of Jesus…He gave a new authoritative basis for life as a disciple in this age. We are to ‘obey all Jesus commanded or authoritatively revealed as binding upon our lives as God’s will for us…’” (M.J. Wilkins, Matthew, The NIV Application Commentary, 956–958).

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that everything you commanded us to do is based on your love. May all of our lives be bound up in your will for us as we go make disciples. In Jesus’ name, amen.
