Day Two: Mustard seed faith

Matthew 17:10-13 NIV
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

“True faith is not seen in the amount it attempts but in the degree of its absolute dependence on God. The focus in this story is on Jesus and the power of God available to those who trust completely in him. Even the smallest amount of this kind of God-awareness can remove great obstacles. The question is clear: Is it self or God in whom our reliance is based? even the smallest amount of God-centered living can accomplish incredible things.” (Grant Osborne, Matthew, ZECNT)

Prayer: Lord, help me to cultivate this kind of God-awareness and God-centered living in my daily life so that when the crisis moments come, I can pray with faith as small as a mustard seed. In humble dependence upon you Lord, I ask that you would move the mountains in the lives of those I am reaching out to. In Jesus’ name, amen.
