Day Four: Father of compassion

Hebrews 11:1, 6 NIV
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see… 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

2 Cor 1:3-4 NIV
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

God works in ways that are greater than our thoughts. He is the “Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles.” He has chosen to include people like us, who are in need of healing, to be those who can comfort others. This does not come from us but from the comfort we ourselves receive from God. As we pray for ourselves and others, may we pray in obedience to God’s word, in faith, in total dependence on him, with assurance of what we do not see.

Prayer: Father of compassion, I come humbly before you and confess my need for you. I pray that you would bring healing and comfort to those we are reaching out to. In Jesus’ name, amen.
