Day Two: Through His Spirit

Ephesians 3:16-17 (NIV)
16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.

“The main intent of Paul’s prayer is clear: He wants his readers strengthened by God’s Spirit so that they may know intimately Christ’s presence and love. If this happens, all else will fall in place…Paul’s prayer (v. 16) is for God to give power from his wealth of glory (NIV, ‘glorious riches’), and his doxology is about the One who has power to give more than we ask or think and to whom glory belongs (v. 20). ‘Power’ and ‘Spirit’ are so commonly associated in both Testaments that they are virtually synonymous. The Spirit is the power of God at work in people. Paul prays for his readers that the Spirit will be so strong an influence at the controlling center of their being that their lives will show it.” (Klyne Snodgrass, Ephesians, NIVAC)

Today is another day we can come to know Christ’s presence and love more intimately. Let’s get ourselves once again into his loving presence as we meditate on his word, pray, and worship him. All else will fall in place.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I want to know your loving presence intimately through your Spirit. Draw me closer to you today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
