Day 1 – Come to Me

Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

“Jesus’ yoke is more than a way of life or of thinking. It is a relationship, a following, a commitment. It is choosing to walk the walk of Jesus, to approach life his way, to attain ‘the whole measure of the fullness of Christ’ (Eph 4:13c). Therefore rest is not just a sense of peace and tranquility in the chaos of life. It too is a relationship, a rest in him and in dependence on him.” (Grant Osborne, Matthew, ZECNT)

Today, let’s open our hearts to hear Jesus’ invitation afresh, “Come to me…take my yoke upon you…learn from me.” In the very areas of overwhelming difficulty where we may have pushed his words aside in the past, let’s ask the Lord to help us now embrace his healing and life-giving counsel in new and deeper measure.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to you today in worship and in confession that you alone have the final word of hope and authority over my life. Help me as I say yes to walk in close relationship with you, to learn how to live from you, and to find my rest in you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
